I think the important characteristic of a good teacher is being friendly and congenial with students.
Because almost the relationship between teachers and student like a barrier between them. Some students hesitate to contact or share their problems.
If teachers are friendly, students can share their problems with theirs, without being afraid or hesitant.

One of the important characteristics of a good teacher is having sense of humour. Even a strict teacher can be loved and listened by his/her sense of humour. Kids would never want to learn with a person who frowns all day long. The subjects they're learning are already difficult! They don't need more pressure. If one can't really be humorous, due to any exceptions, then at least he/she should smile.

I think excellent communication skills. You'd think that the most important quality for a teacher to possess would be knowledge, since that's what the job is all about, after all: sharing knowledge. But no matter how knowledgeable a person is, if they can't convey what they know to others in a way that is not only understandable but engaging, the knowledge itself is useless. If a teacher's communication skills are good, they can convey knowledge with better skill and results.

Oh! This question is hard to answer because all of characteristics of a good teacher are important. If teacher lacks of some characteristics, the teacher will not be able to deal with the job and students. However, the important characteristic for being a good teacher in my opinion is being able to transfer my knowledge about the subject to students in various versions because there are many kinds of students who might not understand the lesson by only lecture.
