Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
Thai traditions that we can obviously see are Thai greeting or 'Whai', and the word 'Sawasdee' which make Thailand so unique. Foreigners can memorize Thailand and Thai people with these traditions. Another tradition is Thai food. Thai food has various recipes due to the various influences that we have got throughout the history. Thailand derive influences from other countries such as India, Vietnam, China, and blend them with our own and become what we see nowadays.

Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
For this question, I would share a valuable tradition maybe not only Thai tradition. A beautiful tradition which I think valuable. That is Respect to each other. In my opinion, respect is a beautiful tradition because it can reflect a deep mindset of a person. For Thai's tradition that I think beautiful respecting to the elderly.

Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
The traditional of Thai wedding and the money that Thai people call it as Sinsod.
Sometimes I just don't understand why do we have something like Sinsod before marriage.
To compare to the western I think Thai traditional seem to be so hard to understand but I don't say that it's not good. Sometimes it's hard to explain to foreigners to understand this.

Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
The culture of Thailand has evolved greatly over time, from its relative isolation during the Sukhothai era, to its more contemporary Ayutthaya era, which absorbed influences from all over Asia. Strong Indian, Chinese, Burmese and other Southeast Asian influences are still evident in traditional Thai culture.Buddhism, Animism and Westernization also play a significant role in shaping the culture.

Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
Greeting with Wai is one of the great traditions of Thailand. The wai is considered a normal greeting in Thailand. This is a motion where a person puts their hands together and drops their shoulders in order for their nose to touch their hands. It resembles a bow. The higher the hands go on someone’s face, the more respectful the greeting. This greeting can mean a multitude of things, including hello, thank you, and goodbye.

Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
Loy Krathong is a major nation-wide event in Thailand, but in Chiang Mai, there is another local festival. The Yi Peng Lantern Festival is celebrated one day before Loy Krathong. There are two major differences between Yi Peng and Loy Krathong:
Loy Krathong is mainly seen as a communal tribute to the water goddess, while Yi Peng is more symbolic of the individual letting go of anxiety and worry. Unlike Loy Krathong, Yi Peng’s lanterns are paper hot-air balloons (khom loi) that are released into the night sky.

Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
When going into the temples in Thailand, women are asked to wear wraparound. And it is believed we should take our shoes off before going into the temples. Things like these are Thai traditions. It is considered impolite not to do as the majority of people do. To follow the norms is also good to do!

Re: What are the traditions of Thailand?
Thai culture retains many things that have been, sadly, lost or are much diminished in western cultures, such as:
- Respect for parents and elders
- Politeness and respect to strangers
- Respect for teachers
- children are free to be children
- a sense of community and 'brotherhood'
- spirituality
- use of formal polite speech modes
Unique to Thailand is the common place use of the 'wai' in respectful greeting and saying goodbye, or to say thank you or sorry. I find this a particularly lovely and endearing custom.

For me, the Thai traditions that really cool is to bend your back down whenever walk through the older one. It can show our respect to them. Even though I think it's so ridicurous for foreigners. Lol
