What makes a movie entertaining?

To me, a film is entertaining if the storyline is strong, and the acting and lines of the actors/actresses are believable. You can tell the difference between a good and bad movie by listening to the dialogue. But entertainment is also a personal thing. For example, I hate horror movies so I just don't find them entertaining at all, but give me a good comedy or romance and I will be there till I get bored.

I think it depends on the viewer, everyone has their own tastes and interests, we can look at measuring the entertainment value of a film with some agreed opinion — box office numbers can be an indication of popularity and over time the general consensus in the general public means we can say;
“Yes, that was an entertaining film!”
